The Southern California Drive-In Movie Society was invited to attend a special preview night for the grand opening of the New Star Vu Drive-In in Costa Mesa California in the parking lot of the Orange County Fair Grounds.

A very interesting and innovative use of a clean empty space for use a drive-in. The area is ready made for such a venue. There is a snack bar, projection booth, restrooms, outside patio seating and enough space for 300 cars, although I believe they may be able to expand that to 350 or maybe 400.

This is a very short, and I mean very short clip of the festivities shot with my daughters digital still camera so we were limited to the amount of memory the camera could record.

For a look at a few more photos of the event visit www.socaldims.com.

  • There are no ramps; how do people in the backseats see the screen?

  • Initially they had people in smaller vehicles closer to the screen and the higher profile SUV's and Vans parked in the rear.

  • To Sal Gomez. Hello again. I saw your earlier clip that talked about your society. The parking lot of the now closed SILVERDOME D IN was slanted down towards the screen. They painted special curved parking spots and their metal screens were hung at an odd angle. We were able to attend a special pre opening party the night before it opened and featured it on Outdoor moovies. We did a total of 3 stories there before it closed. Purists might scoff but I say ANY drive in is better than none!

  • o nvm jk
