"THE BOYS IN THE BAND" was written by Mart Crowley and played successfully off Broadway in 1968. In 1970 it made a landmark as a movie. It dispelled the stereotypical image of gay men. A dark comedy, funny, witty and bitchy. All the actors were gay except for three. The gay actors all died of AIDS. I was so disheartened and sad to read of that. The movie is finally out in DVD now. This is a little gem of a movie.
The story begins when Michael is planning a surprise Birthday party for his friend Harold. Bad timing because Michael`s old college friend asked to come over for a drink and some talk. His friend is straight and knows nothing of Michael`s homosexuality. He decides to come over unexpectedly and in the middle of the party. Nervous and confused at first and irrirated by the feminine one Emory. The battle of minds clash, and Michael`s college friend becomes center stage when Michael admits he is gay.
