you know why operators need to build so many antenna? so that radiation levels coming from the antenna could be kept a small as possible.

it is true, that the reason for this is not because the are concerned about your health, but because they want to maximize their network capacity. but you get the benefits as well. your cell phones don't to transmit so hard, reducing radiation that might actually affect your brain (from your cells). with fewer antenna, your cell power has to be upped.

What about the people who choose not to use cell phones at all but nevertheless have to live near the antennas that serve those who do? They are subject to chronic, cumulative exposures to low-intensity microwave radiation, the long-term effects of which remain unknown at present but which credible research now suggests may not be benign.

actually, they got the better trade too. the micro cell/pico cell scheme reduces the cell base transmit power a couple of orders such that it can be considered negligible.

the only known effect of microwave on human is heating. and the heating you got from standing 3 feet from such antenna would much-much less than the heat your own body generates.

but, if the cell tower has to emit thousands of watt in order to cover larger area (less towers) then the people around it might actually feel it.

Heating may be the only effect you know about, but unfortunately we are aware of quite a few more. Throw in the Extremely Low Frequency (ELF) pulsed modulations characteristic of digital wireless networks, which are independent of signal strength and are discussed by physicist Gerard Hyland in an article in The Lancet as far back as November 2000, and you might consider rethinking your position.

as far as i know, all those effects that people has been pandering about are still hypothesis, none provide solid prove trough rigorous study.

i for once had personal experiences that using cell phone for prolonged time sometimes mad me a bit dizzy. however, the close proximity of cellphone to my brain is far-far closer than those of cell antenna. and the dizziness would go soon as i put down the phone.
