MP3: http://tweaker.sonicretro.org/music/Metropolis%20Act%202.mp3

I like Metropolis Zone. A lot. When a buddy of mine, Tobin, decided to commission me to make a theoretical "Act 2" styled remix, I was pretty psyched! I was granted--and absolutely took advantage of--the ability to shred out as much as humanly possible without any legal or ethical repercussions. The result of this ruthless abuse of distortion is something I'm extremely proud of, even if it totally wouldn't be possible on an actual Genesis.

The trick here with this mix was to vary from the original song just enough to where it was similar and instantly recognizable as the original Sonic 2 tune, but different enough to stand out from the song it was based off. I tried to tactfully add a refreshing new percussion line, I changed up the chord progression just a tad, and I made a whole new bridge with a custom melody based on the original one. I don't know how in line this is with the act 2 remixes in Sonic 3, given that there didn't seem to be any particular consistency between Zones and how their music was changed up, but I think I got the idea across fairly well.

I'm very pleased with how the instrumentation turned out! Hope you are too. :D

  • @DarkSpineSonic11 If only that actually happened. Maybe then the music wouldn't have been partially abominable...

that's what I was thinking too.

  • Awesome!

  • 6 people could not get past Act 2.

  • Sonic Heroes/Adventure anyone?

  • now do act 3

  • The guitar at 0:57 sounds like a Mike Oldfield solo.

  • Tweaker wons... Nuff said.

  • like how you played with the chord progression

  • Tweaker, you evil genius...

  • youshould use this in sonic 2 megamix

  • SonicTweaker + WillRock07 = best sonic mixers on youtube.

  • Sounds like Crush 40.

  • Sounds like Sonic Heroes or maybe Adventure.

  • Is There any way you can help me put Sonic 's special moves from Sonic Megamix in a original sonic 1 Rom? Maybe asm hex hacking perhaps?

  • Y'know, for all the Sonic remixes out there on the web, I can never seem to find enough ones that really get me pumped. Those ones that not only meet the original style, but go further with it into a far off realm I call "Sonic Awesome".

This is one of those remixes. So from the bottom of my heart, thank you. This made not only my day, but probably my next month or two.

  • Cool remix! Not only creative, but it also reminds me of "Shake it Up" by the Cars. Tweaker, you are a genius! =D

  • @SonicTweaker Ah, cool. Was actually unsure about it, but I'll go check out Guitar Rig, since I haven't heard of it.

  • @DalekSam Actually, no. I use something different for rhythm guitars now. I used Amplitube for the one panned to the right and Guitar Rig 4 for the one at the left.
