Café Unity, a community café supported by Heald Green URC, Cheadle, which has become a focal point for the community that was entirely missing five years ago when it formed. As well as a friendly and welcoming meeting place, the café provides a venue for youth activities, volunteering opportunities and a focus for support for various local social initiatives. The café now has a paid youth worker who regularly visits secondary schools in the area and is also training to take on a street pastor role.
Café manager Sarah Pritchard, who is also paid, said: "I hate to have time off.
You open up and the whole village comes in, it's a central part of our community. This is where I belong."
Heald Green minister Mike Walsh said: "It's not a church coffee shop, it's a coffee shop which is run by the churches"
