when you get it out you better replace the Valve cover gaskets and the oil pan gasket.

you are awesome for this. I think its a shame that american consumers dont really go for diesel passenger cars.

You've never worked in a garage before have you, thought not. After all the VW's my father and I worked on we've concluded that the worst carburetors EVER were manufactured by VW same goes for their transmissions. But none the less VW does make outstanding diesel engines. My first vehicle was a 1988 Toyota Hilux turbo diesel, the turbo jammed on me, great engineering huh? After that I moved on to an 83 K5 6.2 diesel Blazer. I didn't regret the Blazer for a second.

Oh before I forget, despite the fact that my power windows, my front upper left light do not function and my radio rattles and I've gone through two alternators. The 6.2L diesel has over 500,000km on it, the 4x4 works excellently, it sounds great, and was a lot more reliable than my previous rig. Bottom line, I'm tired of people pulling facts out their asses.
Have you finished your magnificent project? And are you going to re-paint your car? Anyway, I can't wait to check out more!
the vw body was rusting apart. 23 years of driving around on michigan's salt covered roads. Not too many daily drivers from the 80's still cruising around here.

a metro engine would not improve fuel economy like an efficient vw diesel. both the crx and the vw were able to get over 50 mpg in stock form. Marrying the more efficient motor with the lighter more aerodynamic looking car i expect to have fuel economy numbers in the range of 60-80 mpg.....but only time will tell
