I wonder how many gold metal-flake Firebirds were sold because Jim Rockford drove one. I used to watch the show with my dad (gone now) on Friday nights; real bittersweet nostalgia. Jim Rockford beat the hell out of that Firebird.

That is funny. I usedta pump gas at 22 cents a gallon, and my Mom used to buy it $2.00 worth at a time...

heck 10 years ago I was 18 pumping $5 into a V8 Dodge Dart, it got me 30 miles to the next major city and back and some left over to fool around town with.

@DJDef1le0 It is Paradise Cove north of Malibu off the PCH. The restaurant you see in some episodes of Rockford Files (both internal and external shots) still stands. It was called the Sand Castle when I ate there in Jan. 1988. I dont recall parking charge (off season?) or maybe it was institiuted after I visited OR was less back then and waived since I ate at Sand Castle.

@DJDef1le0 I recall gas at 49 cents..Remember in 1979 when prices jumped following the Iranian revolution they had to HOLD them at 99 cents cause none of the pumps price mechanisms were programmed for more than two digits!!

In '74, gas was shooting up toward $0.45 per gallon. Three bucks would have given Jimbo a half tank!

1974... That was when gas prices (in Oklahoma, at least) jumped from 33 cents a gallon to 53 cents because of the embargo. In Calif. it probably would have been around 60 cents. Three bucks gave Jimbo 5 gallons (1/4 of a tank) which would have given the 400 ci, 175 hp Firebird Esprit a range of roughly 70 miles. Not much, but these were the "gas rationing" days.

Had a Camaro, 5.7 litres and souped up a little bit. It took about 45 litres of gas for 100km. With the three Dollars I could hardly have left the station...

Hey Yanks! Come to the UK and pay over£5 a gallon! don't know what that works out exactly probably close to $10!!!! good init?

LOL, So true. Cult members are brainwashed, so you can forget them owning up to the truth and reality.

Jim Garner had a bad back & bad knees. I had a bad back & bad knees. I had a Camaro, not a Firebird, but practically identical. I learned from watching Jimmy how to roll out of my car without hurting my back or knees.
Unlike me, he got a new car every year. You could tell by the changes (mostly windows & bumpers) in each year's model. Them were the days.
Now a days the gas prices for 8 gallons would be about 4.19-4.35 multiplied by 8, so 33.52-34.80 dollars today, now compare that with 3 dollars worth of gas. Crazy huh?

Indeed, Thank you very much for all the info, I will get back to you on where his trailer/trailor was parked. My parents not too long ago visited California and visited the area where it was parked. They also ate at the restaurant that was near that area. They also charge 25 dollars for parking there but if you eat at the place then you don't have to pay that.
