Split Decision : On 12 December 1985, a charter flight carrying the 101st Airborne Division as Arrow Air Flight 1285 stalled and crashed just seconds after taking off from Gander International Airport in Newfoundland, Canada. All 256 people aboard the aircraft die.

  • @ramrokta Cost is the major factor. Sometimes the time to wait for a de-icing truck is an issue too, but mostly it is cost-cutting.

  • i just hope some smart guy invents a machine that de-ices the plane when it senses cold weather....

  • Everytime anyone says "flaps" on aci I totally lose it and bust a gut laughing and this episode nearly killed me!

  • Why do the pilots not use de-ice? Or does it do something to the aeroplane? I see a lot of accidents with not doing deicing. Is it not that trivial?
