  • If you look at the on the can it says methylated spirits clean up!! NOT WATER CLEANUP!! Ammonia can also be used to clean up shellac just rinse well with water. From the paint lab Painting America Inc

  • shellac has a low melting point and should never be used as a full prime on any exterior substrate, except for spot priming / sealing out sap /knot holes. Also in most cases painting vinyl that is painted darker the factory color ,could cause excessive heat and could damage the vinyl.I would use bulls eye 123 100% acrylic latex bonding primer.Xim makes great product also. Sherwin Williams has a new product on market that you can paint your siding darker than factory colors !

  • dont listen to this guy ...he has no clue as to what he is talking about.

He said its shellac based ( true) so clean brushes with water .....NO!The only thing you can clean up BIN with is alchohol

This primer is shellac based however it should not be used for priming vinyl siding.

you should use a latex primer or even better yet a 100% acrylic primer would be best and give you best adheasion. People shouldnt give advice unless you know what you are talking about!
