this is a tour of the great and glorious granite city steel mill. yeah granite city! a continuation in my study and observations of the st. louis metro east area. i love this video and i hope you all do too. granite city this video is for you!
About 20 years ago, I stopped alongside the road that passes the blast furnaces here in Granite City to take a photo of a hot metal car train. Seconds later, a security guard stopped his vehicle behind my car and asked what I was doing on steel mill property. I honestly told him I wasn't aware that pulling my car alongside the mill was company property. Fortunately, I told the guard I worked to the railroad (C&NW) behind the blast furnaces and he then realized I was no threat.
we would play Prather Jr. H.S. in Granite City, and Central Jr. H.S. we get home home, the soot, smell was embedded in our uniforms, as it was when we played Roxana, the football field sat right on top of the Shell refinery, we would come home smelling like a refinery, oil stained. Parsons Field was another fine field to play football, day games, we would have to police the field before the game, and throw away broken bottles. What memories.
