The Long Island Railroad takes thousands of people in and out of new york city every single day. Check out the view heading back into the city from the front of the train...
I will miss those M-1's and M-3's. You could unwind after a long day with a beer and stand up front and watch the miles roll by. Beats sitting crammed into 2wide-3wide seats with a drooling sleeper. The best was at night in the winter after heavy snows. The shoe on the pickup would arc on the third rail and produce wonderful lightning at night as you raced along at 70 mph.
Actually, you don't need to honk right as you pass the sign. You can be a few seconds or so late but at least you do have to sooner or later honk the horn.
He was honking because for some reason, they have to honk when crossing a street or when tracks merge. Ive noticed that when I take the train to and from my girlfriends house out east, right before (going west) and right after (going east) Hicksville, they honk. It's rather pointless if you ask me...
It where the LIRR Mainline meets up with Amtrak's New Haven Line before entering the east river tunnels.

When I watched the video again, before the little tunnel I saw a "W" sign which stands for "Horn".
