Another brilliant performance of Riccardo Muti!
Rossini is a great entertainer >because he is a most marvellous composer. It requires great theoretical musical skill >as well as a very keen sense of emotional transferring to create scores containing that many embellishments without them appearing to be overcharged with it. His opus is by far the greatest example for music which is simply 'fantastic' - precise, yet lavish - playful, yet ulterior...
To >me, there is no greater composer...~

@hobbs7ly This piece forms the Overture to Gioachino Rossini's - an Italian Operatic Composer of the 19th Century - Opera entitled 'Semiramide'. All Operas are preceded by an Overture which, unlike the singing which is to follow, is a piece which only the orchestra play introducing and giving a pretext to the following Opera.
-
It's the Ouverture from the Rossini opera "Semiramide", as the title says

please excuse my ignorance but cany someone tell me what this piece was written for

@boomkrakatoa Riccardo Muti rocks! He's very amazing.
Rossini was a 20th century composer working in the 19th century. He is under-appreciated by many of the so-called experts because they put him a place he doesn't fit. He was an entertainer first and a composer second and the first great modern entertainer.

@boomkrakatoa I fully agreed with you. Riccardo Muti was the best conductor!
