He played this live on a radio broadcast (Vin Scelsa on WNEW-FM) in the 70s.

Illinois central gulf had "city of new orleans" and other one, "shawnee" only goes to carbondale. "city of new orleans" longer, yes, like 15 cars.

I think Guthrie improved this song.  I understand that Goodman approved Arlo's version.

Nonsense. I know what he is trying to say, this is the original composer and it should not be said her is doing a cover of an Arlo Guthrie song. But, it is a version and he may have several versions that he has used in his career. For example look at a well-known Bob Dylan, he did his version of AATWT and Jimi did his. At some point Bob added a version to his concerts that was based on Jimi's version. That wasn't a cover, Jimi's was still the cover. that doesn't mean it wasn't a version.
