@emsirapkid innocent protesters. Then he lied to the country about what the hell happened. He committed genocide and then tried to hide it. The man's ego is what did him in at the end and he deserved to be taken out of power. Even AFTER the debts were cleared, he did nothing to improve the standard of living. Iliescu may not be the best but he's sure better then Ceausescu.

@emsirapkid His age had nothing to do with it. Yes, he decided to pay back the debts, but he did it at the cost of the country. Romanian citizens suffered food shortages, power/gas/heat shortages and overall hell. Ceausescu made televised appearances of himself walking through stores filled with food and talking about the "high standard of living" that his regime had created...that was all a contradiction to the reality. The events in Timisoara got out of hand and he ordered his army to attack >
