A Keep it in Tune miniseries on rebuilding a Baldwin grand piano. In episode 4, we see the soundboard get glued back into the piano. First we have to finish prepping the board for installation. This includes putting a finish on the underside as it would be much more difficult afterwards.

I also start playing with some fun video effects in this episode.

  • Yes. In fact they are maple upright hammer shanks.

  • The tenor bridge has one button with a screw and it's at the very tip. The rest has a dowel glued through the ribs and into the bridge. Loading the board up with buttons would be excessive and unnecessary. The could actually cause problems (extra weight, mass and other problems I don't have space to go into in a comment). Of course in the end on this piano, the customer wants everything as original as possible so the real answer is: Because that's what Baldwin did originally.

  • Great Videos!

You need to post more here so we can learn from you for free!

    Just kidding.

I am off to your website so hopefully I can see the finish product of this Baldwin.

  • Are they maple dowels?

  • What was the reason for you not using belly (board) buttons for the long bridge? Great videos by the way : )
