Short and simple enough for ya? These videos are for those who have played the game and are looking for something a little more challenging. I offer you guidance as I go through each ranked fight. Cutscenes and anything else that can shave off time is skipped. In addition, I also try to go through the battles themselves as quickly as possible, although that isn't necessarily a rule because rushing will cause carelessness which leads to damage. It's more of a guideline.

For those interested in what hardware/software I use, I use a Canopus ADVC 110 as my video capture device and Edius Pro for my editing. I export and upload them as AVI files and do not use any converting or encoding software. Enjoy the videos but be aware that it takes some time to get each video in its finalized youtube form, so please be patient.

The battles for Rank 8 are actually easier in my opinion than the ones in Rank 9, but what makes Rank 8 a tougher rank overall is the boss fight. Shinobu is one of the hardest bosses in the game, especially for this challenge, beating Dr. Peace by far. There are a lot of enemies with weapons in this rank, and they do like to immediately attack you, so the best strategy to deal with these enemies is weapon clashing. A successful weapon clash will even knock other nearby enemies down, making it easier to kill them as well. I ran into the problem of the kill chain resetting for this ranked fight just as I did for Rank 9, as the last two regular enemies wielded beam katanas and at many points did "block" my attacks towards the end of their health. I've since then not worried about it, as I do not get damaged from the "blocking."

I have however figured something out since I started this ranked fight, or rather, put one and one together. I knew about dark stepping and I also knew about combining stances when attacking an enemy repeatedly, but I had not put the two together until this rank. It was by accident, but it proved to be very effective. I only wish I had utilized this new method of attacking in my Rank 9 videos. You'll see that the enemy gets killed much quicker with this new method.

Lastly, the boss. Shinobu has the lowest health of all the bosses in the game, but is one of the toughest bosses. Why? Primarily it is because she can string many of her attacks together, one right after the other, causing an inexperienced player to receive tons of damage. Her strings of attacks also means that when Travis is attacking her, he usually has a very little space in time to do so before she comes back with another attack of hers, which means damage for you. This is why I constantly evade after I attack, much like the fight with Dr. Peace. Shinobu is also very quick with her attacks, save one or two of them, but those are her "yellow" and "red" aura attacks, so they're supposed to be slow anyway. Travis is sure to receive damage if he does not target her at all times. Dark stepping her is possible, but even when Travis dark steps Shinobu he can only get one or two hits in. Towards the end of her health, she'll start unleashing her attack that usually kills Travis instantly if it connects. Finally, she does a series of six or seven sonic swords that usually takes the player off guard because the player was used to just one sonic sword. Fortunately she only does this one time. All of this combined makes Shinobu a boss that takes a while to beat under these conditions, despite her low amount of health.

  • I'm taking a very short break from this challenge to focus on something else. Rank 7 will take a long time to beat and I've spent about two weeks on just the first three ranks alone. Don't worry, I'm not giving up! Just a short break. Go ahead and subscribe to me so that you'll know when my rank 7 videos are posted.

  • A short break huh ._.

  • Yeah... didn't work out that way, did it. As I said to someone else in the comments section of part 1 of this rank, I will start fresh with the ps3 version of the game once it is released.
