A beautiful parody on Richard Wagner and his operas with POLA NEGRI (1943) in "Hi Diddle Diddle".

In this film, Pola Negri is Genya Smetana, a famous Wagner singer and a strange Lady.

Pola didn´t sings itself. I don´t who sing for her.
Look at the tapete and the persons (Wagner) on it.
A nice cartoon.
For all, who love Richard Wagner and his operas.
For all, who hate Wagner and have a "sweetheart" who love Wagner.

Wagner is my inspiration:-)
Hoojotohooooooo!

(1938). Man beachte die Tapete!!!!

  • This is an American film, but I'll bet It's better known in Sweden!

  • You make me curious. Why better known in Sweden?

  • Negri is the best thing in it. She's so charming and funny and winning, and she looks like a million dollars.

  • Sehr sehr witzig! Vor allem wenn man in Bayreuth geboren ist - so wie ich - wo man ständig mit Wagner konfrontiert wird ;-))

  • Negri is stunning!

  • Tja, wie gut dass das in den 40ern gemacht wurde. Heute koennte man nur noch sagen, Witz komm raus, Du bist umzingelt!

  • @Versipelles Thanks! It's truly amazing.

  • @megaswenson The animation was by Friz Freleng, from over at Warners.

  • @Alparfan cause of big big big money Äh tanned tree lol

(nothing gainst good ol lude von of k.o.rse)

did you know swedens supposed to be boarderlands to hibbelpürrea?

    mü-haha

  • Gee, how that reminds me of my Wagner singer aunt in Berlin who sang for Christmas and accompanied herself on my grandma's grand! I think my Polish speaking grandma knew Pola but I was too little to absorb these stories.

The animation is a back projection, I believe. We did live and do things before computers, man!

  • Love the reference to Casablanca,,,

  • Not so much a parody as a travesty, I'd say, but thanks a lot for showing it to me!

  • Viewed this one for the very first time! Pola Negri was truly a comedic genius & so were the animators who made the Wagner Family-motif wall paper literally come alive! This was a hilarious scene; eagerly await obtaining a DVD copy of the entire film-a New Year's Resolution for 2010! -Thomas Outt
