GODSPEED YOU! BLACK EMPEROR - A Tribute

This is a short film, set to the music of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, using footage I've shot over the years. ALL of the music is from GY!BE and the spoken dialogue as well is from the song "dead flag blues". Also, the spoken words were, as far as I now know, written by Efrim (from godspeed) and spoken by Lee Marvin.

Also, I came up with the concept of the video and how it would be arranged, the flow, the pacing, how each image would possibly reflect the current part of the song etc.. I respect your opinions about the video overall, but think you are a bit too quick to jump to conclusions and I don't appreciate being accused of stealing work. As I cant change the credits in the actual video, I have changed the description here.

It's about being creative. And that's one of the things that this band has always inspired in me. To try and be creative with what I have at hand. All you need is people who share your love for the craft. Just hanging onto each other. Anyways, I hope I'm being clear. Regards.

Your points are clear and make sense charlie, sorry for taking to the defense, I can tell now that your intentions were well meant. Good to know about the Lee Marvin spoken words, I wasn't sure about that.. Also, to be honest the reason I put all of the credits at the end was to keep the song going for a bit longer, so it ended up as one of those over done credit sections with the same name.

Anyways, I think we are on the same page here and I see where you are coming from, I was just taking your criticism as blind bashing when it was obviously not. Also, I agree that it could have been done better, in all honesty some of the effects are a bit cheesy in my opinion. So, with that said thanks for the comments and criticism.

You are well aware of that, but most viewers might not know that those are words from the song "The Dead Flag Blues" from GY!BE, and your credits may lead an unprevented viewer to believe that's something you came up with. In a way, you are stealing work. You do list the songs to belong to GY!BE, but in all honesty I believe you should credit the words to them (or Efrim, for instance) as well. Sorry if I'm harsh, but I hold this band and their songs very dear. Regards.

Um, first of all aren't the words by actor lee marvin? Then that would mean, THE WORDS SPOKEN ARE NOT THEIRS? So, should I credit him? Also, I dont know if you have ever done video editing but it doesn't involve just "throwing images that were nice for me and placing them one after the other until I ran out of them". So, thanks for demeaning the work that I did, which you seem to somehow know so much about. Also, I did write the scenes that you see with the man (it was an actual script).

(from my view, and considering what you can evidently do judging what can be seen in this video). I think the songs you used build very powerful images (some of which ar very specific) and you can say it's a matter of taste, but I don't see them there as strong as they could be. As for the editing thing, I have shot written, shot and edited several short films, and participated in two full length features. I know you can do better, and what's more, with no money. I'm sorry, I didn't mean to say that you're stealing. I was just trying to say that you should be careful about what people would infer from your credits, and try and give credit where it is due when you're using someone else's work in yours (by the way, Lee Marvin does speak the words alright, but the words were writen by Efrim). Also, I didn't say you didn't write what you shot or you didn't think how you'd edit the video, but you didn't shoot the material with this piece in mind. [continues]
