While staying in Melbourne, Australia, in 2000, etta cetera & I were exposed to the work of media trickster John Safran. Safran had shot 2 pilots for a proposed tv show that were chockfull of mischief. The tv show didn't happen & Safran became a radio talk show host instead. Impressed by his shenanigans, etta & I wanted to meet him & prank him a bit too. SO, on June 1, 2000, we called him from a squat we were staying at & asked if we cd visit him while he was on the air. After some questioning about whether I was a serial killer, he agreed. etta went as Ghanesh & I scattered fotos near Safran that were connected to the long movie that everything we were shooting was a part of ("Don't Walk Backwards") & played sound effects from my "player belt" (2 amplified portable speakers & 2 tape players worn on a belt). Ghanesh asked Safran prepared questions (that were also a theme running thru the longer movie) & he replied as best he cd at the time. After only a few minutes of confusing Safran, we were on our merry way - departing w/ our now customary "You'll never see us alive again!" After we left, we heard Safran explaining to his agent over the radio that he'd just been visited by a "pink elephant". - February 25, 2010 notes from tENTATIVELY, a cONVENIENCE
