@Suman44 yeah a lot of composers try his 'style' but nothing compared to rahman. HJ's old music was pretty good, but now its quite bad. He also copies a lot of foreign artists. Try 'minnale' soundtrack, kaakha kaakha the police, vaarnam aayiram, these are 3 movies in which hj composed the tunes n i'd say their pretty good. If you want old indian music, look for illayaraja tunes, was from a era before rahman, n he's a legend. or try his son, yuvan shankar raja's soundtracks like Paiyaa.

@Akiithebest yo dude how's it going? i was able to watch "alaipayuthey" right here on youtube, good they had subtitles. It was great and very touching. Yeah i have already checked out those soundtracks, wow A.R. Rahman definitely redefined Indian music with these movies, btw my indian friend told me that many other Indian film composers try to imitate him, is it true? I need to check out other good Indian composers, from what I've heard, Harris Jayaraj is very good, are there any others?

@Suman44 slumdog is shit compared to rahman's 90's music. alaipayuthey is one of his best, but do check out ROJA soundtrack(his debut n is styl considered his best), or Bombay, Gentleman, Dil se, Taal, 'En Swase Kaatre', 'Indian/ Hindustani', lagaan. His latest 'vinnaithaandi varuvaaya' is also quite good. And search for this movie, its a great one! m sure u'll find it. enjoy.

I was introduced to A.R. Rahman through Slumdog Millionaire, I thought his soundtrack was phenomenal. Then, while I was chatting with my friend from India, a huge Rahman fan himself, he told me that Alaipayuthey was, in his opinion, Rahman's original "earth-shattering" soundtrack. Later, I found this song, and I instantly felt what he meant by "earth-shattering", at 0:20 when the flute comes in, it's beautiful beyond description... Hope I can find the full movie as well
brings back so many memories
