Nice to see reasonable and down-to-earth americans talking about important issues without resorting to name calling :D
If these 2 were leading the world we would probably be in better shape!

The US economy is to pure capitalism what the USSR is to communism. IE - this isn't unfettered capitalism. There are many limitations placed on businesses - generally ones that reinforce the big corporate monopolies, and protect them from smaller competitors.
I'm not an advocate of pure unfettered capitalism by any means, because I think unfettered capitalism would also be destructive (I'm not a libertarian) - I'm just saying what we have isn't it.
Good interview though.

@orospakr If the capitalist system were to become even less regulated it would just increase how fast our world is consumed. Capitalism has hijacked our government, This government we have today is completely dominated by corporate interests and money. Corporations are the problem.
No, Capitalism isn't about life liberty and happiness. It's about exploitation of people and the planet. These are the american illusions he was talking about..

Also, I'm going to add, the problems that have dogged us of late (financial cronyism, endless wars, police brutality and loss of civil rights), have entirely resulted from the opening of government to special interests by ever-widening the scope of the government's responsibility. It's oligarchy (and indeed, imperialism as they term it here), but it sure as hell isn't capitalism.

Five of us think this is terrible and wrong. Capitalism is what emerges from free individuals with a right to honestly gained property. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I can choose what I value, and not have others force me.
People and natural resources are fundamentally different: the first are sentient and have rights, the second is not.
Corporations aren't the problem, it's a huge and scopeless government that provides a huge amount of niches for cronies to occupy.

Anyone heard of Resource Based Economy?
It might be a good solution.

@timjohan. What they are saying is easy to follow and quite obviously true. I am surprised it goes right over your head
