The writings expressed in this video are those of Margaret Shaida, an Englishwoman who married an Iranian man and after moving to Iran fell in love with the food and wrote the book The Legendary Cuisine Of Persia which went on to win the Glenfiddich Food Book of the year Award.

  • Spice trade and forage to the east in search of spices started much much earlier that you think. Kerala in South India has been the largest spice market and hub for the rest of the civilized world right from the time of the ancient Assyrians (2500 BC) through the Greco Roman era, the medieval European age of discovery unto this day. Even as of now India is the largest global producer of spices with around 85% of annual global produce.

  • Check history before writing stuff and making false claims. First and foremost, Taj Mahal wasnt made by any Persian king. It was Shah-jahan the Mogul emperor of India, grandson of Akbar the great who built it. I do agree that the Persians have a great and grand old heritage, but dont forget that there's an older and richer civilization just towards your east. Grand cities and kingdoms and empires have been in existence in India since three thousand BC.Just educating the 'unassuming' Persian :-)

  • Margaret Shaida was my grandmother, and it makes me so happy to see that many people enjoy her book and the wonderful cuisine she wrote about. I will never forget how delicious the food she cooked for me was, and its rich history. I hope one day I will be able to do her proud and cook some of the dishes myself.
