Singer Katy Perry's upcoming appearance on ''Sesame Street'' was canceled in September of 2010, reportedly because some parents complained that her sketch with Elmo was too risque. The Children's Television Workshop opted to pull Perry's ''Sesame Street'' skit after parents complained about the singer's outfit: a form-fitting, lime green short dress that reveals a bit of Perry's cleavage.



The controversy began when the Katy Perry ''Sesame Street'' skit, in which the pop star sings a duet of her song "Hot N Cold" with Elmo (with modified lyrics), was put up online on Monday, September 21, 2010. When some viewers complained that the skit was "inappropriate," the ''Sesame Street'' producers decided to permanently shelve the skit. It will not air, as originally planned, on the television show later this year. Sesame Workshop issued a statement saying the video would remain up for fans to watch on YouTube.


To be fair, Perry does appear to be wearing a flesh-colored mesh cover under the green dress. A representative for Perry said "Katy enjoyed working with 'Sesame Street,' Kevin Clash and playing dress up with Elmo." Katy Perry took to her Twitter account on September 23, 2010, to address the controversy, saying: "Wow, looks like my play date with Elmo has been cut short!" She then directs followers to her own website to watch the video, adding: "Tag you're it, Elmo!"
