@DrClay999 He's denied because he's needed as a train engineer, but they don't tell him that specifically. His GF thinks he's a shirker and refuses to see him until he enlists. His train, The General, is stolen by Union raiders and this clip is one of his attempts to get it back.
I love this film, but it's usually better with the sound off , except for the version released in 1995, scored entirely with Scott Joplin. The soundtrack was copyrighted in 1994 and had a limited release on VHS in 1995 in honor of Keaton's100th birthday. I've never heard such an enjoyable silent film score until this one. I have posted 2 clips from the 16mm film (never released). A live piano presentation of this version is being planned in the Phila. area, a new release on DVD to follow.
How can anyone dislike this goofball at play? He's so freaking funny!
