  • @tchykovsky btw. you must not be a fan of Carlos Kleiber, right? Cause he used to wave his arms all over the place, all night long...

  • Respond to this video... I think Lang Lang's case is unique, he came from a background of musicians who performed show business. So, naturally he was influenced by it. Again, one should judge the music based on the music, not these unimportant details.

  • @tchykovsky I don't know why you are bringing up this "issue". His arm movements are not "excessive" at all. More importantly, since 90% of the music making came before the concerts, i.e during rehearsals. I don't really see waving the stick excessively or not is a problem. You always have the choice of close your eyes and just listen to the music. The fact you are paying so much attention to these extra-musical matters is clouding your own judgement of the music this man is making,

  • It's like... you have pianists like Andre Hamelin, that limits body movement to conserve energy to make the best uses of it. Then you have Lang Lang... showing off with lots of body movements and unnecessary gestures. Anyhow, I guess classical music is show business... hm...

  • I really don't like that new style of conducting. He's not like Gerald Schwartz, who expends less energy waving the stick. I don't get why conductors must feel like making music is a huge body movement. That new style of conducting needs to be dropped.
