My sister once suggested that the eels (fish) were supposed to symbolize The Catholic Church and that Oskar's mom's nausea symbolized Modern Polish Womanhood and their revulsion to Catholic Tradition, or something like that.

@MaciekWojcicki I'm not confused - It is a matter of languages we think in, I am not an American. When i say Eel I mean european eel, that is why scientists use latin.

@MaciekWojcicki I... are you confused? I know that those eels aren't moray eels. You worded your original comment as though moray eels aren't eels so I was just clarifying. Yes, those aren't moray eels. They're European eels, most likely. Your comment is like saying, "That's not a black widow; it's a spider" lol

@BishoujoMagic Both are from the same family of Anguilliformes fishes but Moray is a tropical and subtropical fish. This is a Baltic Sea and this particular fish is an Eel. I have been eating it several times.
