This is my 4-400 10 meter amplifier project. Its grounded grid so it should be good for AM and SSB .

  • Ok heres what happened . It did put out about 3 hundred watts but the longer you had a load on it the more it would gas up . After a minute or two of gasing up lightning would shoot all around the inside of the tube and it would draw too much plate current . So I spent 2 days building a tube tester and the tube is bad . Its back to the drawing board on this one .

  • i like that tank coil where is that thing tune at? 27.025? haha

  • I was tuning it at 28.500 . You are right 10 and 11 meters are close and you could tune it to 27.025 .

  • hey man a little late but i was jammin wit u guys had a blast man awsome vid bro!!! wish i knew of electricity!! 5 stars man

  • @KF4QKR I picked one of these Eimac 4-400As up on the Goodwill auction site for like 70 bucks. Some guy in the TCA offered to test it for me if I ship it to him. I have tube testers, but they fall pretty far short of the 1000 or so volts needed to begin to get any data during a Gmohs, and Ip testing round, but I do have an some larger power supplies. Is 70 bucks a good price? Even if its bad, I suppose it looks cool for the guitar and amp shop, & can sit atop my 1936 Coronado 850B Am radio.

  • where can i find plans or info on building one ofo these?

  • yeah, because god knows that it's a challenge to use a linear...yawn..... when channel 6'ers build a good 160 meter setup, THEN we'll talk.

  • I read somewheres that you has to cook these tubes for like a month. Two weeks with just the filament on. Then another 2 weeks running half power under load. That's just to make sure all the gas gets absorbed.
