I always thought that this is one of the greatest performances of a song. I do not think I have heard of any other performer singing it, as no one could compare with Vikki's. Thanks for posting.

Incredible.... I loved her music back in the early 70's and still do. I was fortunate enough to hear her in, I think, 1974 at the beautiful Greek Theater in Los Angeles (outdoors at night, similar to the Hollywood Bowl, but smaller). Superb show. And, in fact, they recorded that show and it is available on CD (2 discs). I certainly recommend it.

Few singers are able to convey the emotion she does - and make you feel it.

I remember hearing this song over and over again one night in 1970 in a bunker at Camp Carrol Republic of South Vietnam just below the DMZ. Stirring then and remains so today, wow! Then I heard it between blasts from an eight-inch gun. The two fellows who were coordinating the fire orders from the field to the guns had the tape. We all enjoyed hearing it over and over then just like I do now.
