Sean McGuire plowed a difficult furrow ..he was obviously way ahead of other trad players as regards technique because of his classical training. Some admired this , but not everybody. I remember hearing him playing Shon Rosmarin in Longford in 1960 ...he was that sort of man I think ..he did not just play the fidlde he played the music. He proved that you could combine classical and Irish tradition...it's a matter of overall musicianship which few have .

I grew up in London. My Dad tried to make us learn the fiddle. We tried but weren't very good.
Sean McGuire was a musical colossus in our house, and when his records were played we all stopped and listened.
When we visited Ireland we were stunned to find him playing in a tiny pub to a handful of people! We expected him to be mega famous!
Another genius not fully appreciated when he was alive.

sean mcguire was my grandad ...i saw this clip and it is so weird to see him in his house like that...great to look back on...im conor (stellas son - stella is his daughter - joespehine keegan is her mother)
