Former President Bill Clinton told CNN Monday that he thinks some of the criticism directed at President Obama is racially motivated, but added that not all of Obamas detractors are racist and urged his fellow Democrats to remain focused on trying to enact health care reform.

I believe that some of the right-wing extremists which oppose President Obama are also racially prejudiced and would prefer not to have an African-American president, Clinton told CNNs Larry King in an interview to air Monday evening. But I dont believe that all the people who oppose him on health care and all the conservatives are racists. And I believe if he were white, every single person who opposes him now, would be opposing him then. Therefore, while I have devoted my life to getting rid of racism, I think this is a fight that my president and our party this is one we need to win on the merits.

Clinton later added, I really think that we should disaggregate lingering problems of discrimination from the attacks to which the president is subject.

Clinton was reacting to Rep. Joe Wilsons, R-South Carolina, outburst when he shouted You lie at Obama during the presidents joint address to Congress and former President Jimmy Carters assessment that racism is an issue for Obama in trying to lead the country. //////////// It started with U.S. Rep. Joe Wilsons You lie! outburst during President Barack Obamas address to Congress last week, continued Saturday with tennis player Serena Williams telling a judge, If I could, I would take this @#$% ball and shove it down your @#$% throat, and wrapped Sunday night with hip-hop artist Kanye West seizing the microphone from VMA winner Taylor Swift and telling the crowd that Beyonces video was better. Joe Wilson could have responded to President Obamas speech by trying to fix what he thought was broken and, failing that, defeat it. Serena Williams could have taken a step back from the baseline, continue the match and file a protest over what she considered a bad call. Kanye West could have kept his big mouth shut, recognizing he isnt the final authority over whats best. We live in an increasingly crowded and complicated world where disputes are sure to arise. Being a jerk isnt the solution. Respect and common decency, those are the solutions. ///// Extreme Anti-Obama Protesters Raise Racism Concerns 18-Sep-2009 Images from the 9-12 rallies are raising concerns that anti-Obama protests might have racial undertones. A week after the 9-12 rallies in Washington D.C., there is still discussion about the rally, though perhaps not what some of the protesters wanted discussed. Left-leaning blogs and news organizations have been posting pictures from the event, many showing some rather frightening signs and shirts including ones that read Abort Obama, Not the Unborn and The Tree of Liberty must be refreshed from time to timePennsylvanians are armed and ready. Others were seen carrying Confederate flags and wearing t-shirts that read Celebrate Diversity with pictures of various different guns. While many of the people at the 9-12 rally might have shown up to protest health care reform and big government, there were enough crazy signs in the crowd to make the news cycle several times and spark debate about what defines satire and what defines racism.

  • wealthy country? since when?

  • i'm a conservative republican..but doggone it.. i want Bill Clinton back!!!!

  • @IwontConform Are you aware that over 10 of our presidents were philanderers? And that's just the ones we know about.

America isn't a non-white majority, it's 72% white. That's a white majority. That is the POINT of America. Diversity. Hence the First Amendment. And without immigration, America would be broke because Americans are just too stupid compared to the Chinese and Indians.

He was a great president because he handled conflict well, he made good initiatives, and made the economy thrive.

  • @IwontConform

I see you trollin', you hatin', I'm patrolling and tryin' to catch yo' stupid ass trollin'

Tryin' to ctach yo' stupid ass trollin', Tryin' to ctach yo' stupid ass trollin', Tryin' to ctach yo' stupid ass trollin', Tryin' to ctach yo' stupid ass trollin'!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @sumskater999 how can you call bill clinton a great president when he has openly expressed his glee over america eventually becoming a non-white majority, and has been a major supporter of jewish elites behind the subversion of american immigration policy and promotion of anti-white "diversity"? The man is a communist and a traitor, not to mention a shameless philanderer.

  • Best President of my lifetime for sure. But I don't know about the 20th century...FDR, JFK, Eisenhower, and Teddy Roosevelt were all pretty damn good too. But ultimately I think Clinton makes my top 5 all-time list, with Washington, Lincoln, F. Roosevelt, and Kennedy. He ought to have his face on currency some day. If FDR and JFK did it with having affairs, I don't see why Clinton should be left out.

What I remember of the 1990's was great. What I remember of the 2000's was abysmal.

  • Wasn't it Bill Clinton who said "a few years ago this guy would be getting our coffee" regarding Barrack Obama

  • I agree with universal health care. I mean hell, I had to have a very serious operation. I didn't have health care. It finally got so bad that I couldn't work and I had to use government aid while i wasn't able to work anymore to get the procedure done after years of suffering before I finally gave out. Everyone has the right to live IMO. I'm conservative on most things, but this is one thing I think should be covered for all citizens.

  • in the words of howard dean....BIYAH!!!

  • 25 seconds in, Bill once again proves why he was the BEST president of the 20th century... He calls em as he sees em... and not in a sarah palin shucksy (i think that word will be added to webster's next year) way
