How to use light diffusers for photographic work when your scene is to contrasty.

  • In still photography, and in this case "contrast" is the difference between light and dark. Your camera's light sensor is much less sensitive to light then your eyes are. It will only register a few stops of light variance between total black (underexposed) and total white (overexposed).

  • It appears that the term "Contrast" has a different definition among photographers than the television industry.

    An overexposed seen (over saturated) scene is said to have LESS contrast since the dark areas lose detail. However a duller picture with more color balance is said to have higher contrast since the dark areas have more detail.

    However for photographers it seems to be the other way around. Interesting.
