Technology Entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth has spent the past 7 years working on a new Open Source Software program called "Ubuntu". It combines the powers of crowd sourcing, cloud computing and convergence in a new innovative format that's got the whole world talking. ABN reporter Talia Sanhewe caught up with the Afronaut at the recent Design Indaba to find out more.
@goochbuntu If you don't think he's good looking that's your own opinion. However, I think he's a total hottie and it doesn't matter how much he has in the bank.

I wonder, what will it take for Mr Shuttleworth to be interviewed on CNN? I mean, Gill Bates got on there twice! (And I definitely detected an ANTI-Linux attitude from them!)

@Marfordel Ok good points you make there, but will a new user go straight for the software centre or go looking for apps they may be able to install? I think theyd most likely find something in the Software centre

I was comparing operating systems- not phones. Anyone who buys an android phone has some clue as to how to use it. Older generation would find it more difficult. I was comparing windows, and ubuntu, not moblie os- are you contrary?
Try getting the general public to compile dependencies in ubuntu, or run one of the many command line programs. Or figure out how to get root privileges- tell them they have to type this kind of stuff make-apt sudo get. contrary?- yes definitely contrary.

@zikalify Just because its on a phone interface it doesnt mean that its more or less complicated than say... iOS but if i was asked to use both devices if uncover ubuntu functions better than android initially. What im saying is people use android lots now and overcome the difficulties, the same can be done in ubuntu much easier :/

Android as a desktop operating system? really? i didn't know it was used as much as Ubuntu?
Marfordel 10 months ago
@Marfordel I think android is more difficult to use than ubuntu and people in the majority use that...

Windows hasn't a chance! Not with the devotion shown by the Ubuntu community. But learning Ubuntu is still difficult. Explanation are either too simple, or too advanced.
Ubuntu discriminates against older people, or ordinary people, because it has a steep learning curve- thats why it will always remain niche.
If Ubuntu is to grow exponentially, then it needs to be simplified. It has all the best software- needs no more at present. The usability is suffering for better software :(
