How to make sure we get diversity into the system.

If you would like to start/moderate a 'satellite' community get in touch with me.

Please think who you would like to invite into the system who you would be prepared to be linked to. Try to extend beyond your comfort zone; who's voice do you want on here, even if you don't personally agree with what it?

  • I have to join this. I just have too.

  • @conferencereport

    Good...

  • @conferencereport Thanks for explaining. I can see it would be a great idea for some, just probably not me, so I'd disappear if it were complusory.

  • @rozeboosje The way YD database works at the moment I couldn't do that unfortunately. Actually, that would just be the same as forming a group on YD and restricting access to it.

  • @2bsirius I would anticipate content being viewable by default. Individuals could make videos private if they chose, but they can do that now anyway.

  • @Loreleila I wasn't suggesting people are artificially allocated into specific interest groups, rather that, as I tried to say, some groups of people need relatively discreet places to gather as well as the open space of a YT, and if such spaces were offered that might useful. I would agree with you that 'organic movings about' is a good aim, but to my mind you get there by creating a leaky, porous structure, neither open-plan nor partitioned into hermetic chambers.

  • @Loreleila

    That makes sense...

  • @2bsirius I'm talking about the satellite idea as a whole, that we should, Google like, put ourselves into specific groupings (though if anyone wants to that's quite different). I far prefer organic movings about as seem appropriate at the time. I can see a real purpose in groups that have a level of privacy, but they should be voluntary and self chosen imo. I enjoy talking with people who see things differently and love challenges, but don't want to be locked artificially into them.

  • @Loreleila

I'm not sure which of my long winded comments you're referring to...I'm assuming it might be about all of us being able to see all the content on YouDoubled? If so, you might agree it's OK to peer in the window from the outside of a group, because half the fun in life is watching other people think, and it's a lot more fun when the person is offering views you which challenge yours.

  • @2bsirius Well I'll hold my hands up to that one and I'm no stalker, I just don't like the idea of social engineering. I think it's far more productive to offer people options and allow them to use them as they see fit. After all this is about getting out from under organisations who tell us what we should be doing, so whether this is inspired by one or many it seems to limit rather than open out. But that's my preference not a global prescription from me.
