This is the channel 9 news report as went to air on the 14/4/11 about the pending closure of the Malvern Tivoli. The Tivoli is run by Carole Ann and Terry Gill who have been presenting children's pantomimes for close to four decades. The Tivoli Theater has become a local institution with sell out shows that embrace old fashioned stories laced with modern day gags and references.

Anybody who has experienced this old fashioned entertainment combined with fairy bread and cordial drinks could not be moved by the efforts of the Tivoli team to keep this nostalgic experience alive for this generation of children to experience.

Although the business is healthy the owner of the site sees more self centered opportunity in developing an apartment block on the site and demolishing the building and theatre.

A montage of images from my daughters visits to the Tivoli appears at the end of the news report.

A partition has been raised to protest the development which is due to take place in January 2012.

  • Thank you soooo very much for posting this!

I myself have worked at the Tivoli for the last 5 yrs and to see the impact it has had is incredible.

The photos shown at the end of the clip are beautiful, couldn't help but get a little teary. Just a question?

Who ever you are out there that posted this I am trying to find the song played at the end? I know it's based on a riddle but please if you see this, where can I find the song?

  • Hi 011182Jess, thanks for the nice comment.

The song is Ninny Nanny Netticoat from a Beatrix Pottter Nursery Rhymes CD

  • Thank you for posting this. There aren't many "theatres" out there in the suburbs and I will miss this one not only because my kids loved the pantomimes when they were young but because as an actress it provided me with some wonderful employment.
