Yes, the wheels rotate at a different speed. Click on the link in the description for picture of this. You are right about the fact that this adds distance.

@DJReidak let the bigger gears be on ge motor and the smaller on the wheels and that way the weels will spin faster than motor does ;)

Does this work like a sentry gun when something is detected the mechanism fires? If it does this is basic technology and people could take this to the next level and arm NXT with airsoft pellets! lols
