There are two ways to tell downy from hairy. Hairy is a larger bird, close in size to a blue jay, while the downy is smaller, just a little larger than a house sparrow. Second, the bill of a hairy is much longer, nearly as long as the head is wide. The downy has a very small bill.

awesome!! i think this is the best video i've seen yet,great job, i have 2 like these i feed dailey,i think they are downys,now not sure,not sure how to tell them apart,but i love this video
