Very underrated opera. It's not as advanced or innovative as Verdi's FALSTAFF (based on the same play) but has a lot more charm. Also, like a lot of Wagner's contemporaries who used a more traditional style, Nicolai sort of got lost in the shuffle. He deserves some performances outside Germany.
Many notable composers have tried this play (not only Verdi but Salieri and Vaughan Williams) but Nicolai's may be the most delightful version of a somewhat nasty story.

one of my favorite classical pieces. So uplifting, reminds me of a fresh spring morning and breathing in deeply and the sighs of wonder when you can relax, roll over and just enjoy the stillness of beauty surrounding a sunlight filled room and all the joy of the sounds from outside rising in tempo and volume. Aaaaahh : )
The poster is probably able to avoid punishment for copyright infringement if he doesn't identify the performers. Sneaky.

I think it is Kleiber and the Wiener Philharmoniker, New Year's recoding of 1992. But of course, I could be terribly mistaken. Maybe the owner of this channel SHOULD give some more detailed information....
