This is a video tour of Maine Central Caboose #660 which is now on display at the Cole Land Transportation Museum.

It was built in March of 1940 for the Western Maryland Railroad and was originally numbered #1878. Per the museum records from the Western Maryland historical society, it was one of five to be sold to the Maine Central Railroad in 1962. It was originally assigned between Rigby and Bangor, Maine. Dick Burnham, Maine Central's Bangor District Manager, said it seemed to roll and rock differently from others which made it difficult for trainmen to do the large amounts of paperwork required.

It was donated to the museum in 1988 where over 500 hours of volunteer labor restored the caboose to its present condition. When visiting the museum, the public is allowed to go through this caboose.

  • So glad the scrappers didn't get their hands on this one. Not too many MEC cabooses around anymore. Some are ice cream stands, a few others reside in back yards, and some are in better hands with private owners, but still hard to find one in such good condition as this one is.

  • thumbs up if you have this exact caboose with the same road number as a model

  • Nice video , the audio and video was really clear , i like those bunk buds ?lol
