@alexjonesviewer because thats what repeaters do. They let people with low power handhelds (aka HT) talk over greater distances. Ham Radio 70cm band is very close to the GMRS frequency, and power level. In this video my HT was only at 0.5 Watt to get across the waterfront to a repeater which was linked up with a bunch of others, and I was able to talk to someone over 190 miles away (straight line). Meanwhile at my home the buildings block my signal and not even 25 watts can reach the repeater.

why would some one have a gmrs repeater and only use it for handheld radios o0nly

@alexjonesviewer I hate to admit it but GMRS is like the 4-Chan of radio, there is a lot of foul play because there is nothing keeping trolls off the band. You can mod a lot of ham radio gear to get onto GMRS/FRS Bands. GMRS radios legally cant go over 5 watt. My HT does full 5W (modded) and my friends mobile radio does 50 watts! I have a china clone radio that needed no modding to get on the band with 5W. But that type of talk is taboo in the ham radio world. Just food for thought.

I'm not real interested in ham radio how ever I'm thinking about getting my gmrs license...they both have a lot in common and I enjoyed your video
Try Piano wire (spokes for a bicycle are ok as well) Guys, your HT's supply the RF to get into the repeater (COR Which stands for carrier operated Relay causes the repeater to go into transmit mode)) The link system is doing the work. Just hope to be "full quieting" into the local repeater. Full quieting means that you are solid into the repeater without and hash noise because your HT or any radio is NOT making the repeater to well (to far away to reach the repeater) Steve, N5YEO, 147.160 /R

@TexasSteven Ive tried, works well if you know how to solder well, which I do. If you check out the show BSoD I make a bunch of antennas. But remember, this is for people that have ZERO knowledge of ham radio. This is supposed to spark their interest.

Wow I needed a good laugh. I love your terminology.(and language) I've own my two amateurs and they are great to have built and set up. Please talk to a license hamm radio operator to help explain better then this guy. Sorry Fox, your friend was BAD in explaining repeaters. You talking about "Autopatch" (where you can use the repeater as a telephone.) Yes, you can "Link" your local repeaters to other repeaters in other areas
Good Luck! Keep asking questions. So we all can learn.

@TexasSteven asking questions is what BSoD is all about! But we also need knowledgeable people to answer them. We kept this segment simple because we wanted to show some of the young blood on the internet what Ham Radio can do. I have done other stuff on BSoD as well like SSTV ove FRS, modded wifi gear, built tons of antennas. All based off questions people ask, cause thats what we are all about. Getting knowledge into the minds of those who want to learn, and to learn from others as well.
