UltraVNC allows you to view others desktops, and is a free download for all Microsoft Windows operating systems. VNC (Virtual Network Computing) however is a protocol available for all operating systems. It is already installed on Ubuntu with the GNOME Desktop. It runs on ports 5800 and 5900 or ports of your choosing. You need to configure a secure password so that people will have a hard time hacking your connection.

  • This question has probably been asked a million times, but I don't want to siphon through all the comments. Does the other computer you're viewing also need this program? Or can you just view any computer?

  • @brainboner both computers need the software

  • Can i do this over the internet or just Local Area Network?

  • @bskmama both internet and LAN. Port forwarding is required for internet

  • Thank you great video, I've tried setting this software (Ultra VNC) up at a karaoke bar, so they can control their computers in their vip rooms, but all their computers are offline and the owners don't seem to think they need to be online for the software (Ultra VNC) to work instead they have all their computers connected to each other via ethernet (cable).

so do those computers need to be online, for the software (Ultra VNC) to work?

  • @SuperMichog The Client and Server need some kind of network. Even if it is just a crossover cable between them. (A network of two)
