In history, Ma Chao was actually considered to be on par in skill with Lu Bu. They called him Ma Chao The Splendid because of his elaborate armor and incredible skill. It would have been great to see them duel. But Lu Bu was executed.

No, in history he was compared to YING Bu, one of Liu Bang's generals. Ma Chao wasn't anywhere near Lü Bu in competence.
Bü was a known good duelist. Ma Chao hasn't a single documented duel.
Bü was a master archer without compare in the era.
Bü was a master cavalry warrior.
Bü was also a superior general and tactician. Ma Chao doesn't really compare.
