"L'Amor e la Guerra" is a concert by LiliumLyra where the poetry and the music of the medieval troubadours are presented through the telling of their 2 hundred years long story.
The first part is about the origins of their music and poetry, probably rooted in sacred and folk culture.
Here we present a medley of two songs, the gregorian hymn "Ave Maris Stella" and an instrumental version of a troubadour's song, "D'eissa la razon" (thanks to Domitille Vigneron for the mensural version).
The second part of the video is about the first known troubadour, William IX of Aquitaine. He was often regarded as an immoral and brutal man, was excommunicated twice and often considered as a jester. By the way he was a very fine poet and gifted musician, and had a very particular vision of Love.
Once William was badly wounded in battle and he composed "Pos de chantar m'es pres talenz", scared and repentant for all his sins.
Later he recovered and returned to his dissolute life.
LiliumLyra is an italian ensemble performing medieval music from the 12th and 13th centuries. The main focus of the project is to propose a lively performance of the music by occitan "trobadors" (troubadours) and french trouvères.
