Yeah, that's right ... they got contaminated with radiation BUT it didn't turn them into zombies. They just died. During the whole game, the main character (you) is dead, you get the chance from chronos to avoid the accident on the ship and save yourself alike. so the zombies and everything that happened isn't real! ... except the flashbacks. The story about danko is also just a symbol. It symbolizes the captain and his crew. The game is full of subliminal messages. I love it! ;)

If you've read the game's plot, it's pretty much all of the captains fault...So I don't see why they didn't just throw him off the ship into the freezing arctic water...

Personally I prefer the first officer ending: instead of whining like a little bitch to the captain about the reparations, he goes down to HELP with the reparation, putting himself to the same level of the low engineering crew. Now THAT is communism!
