How different modern day 21st century London is now...when it does become fairly foggy in London today it is little more than a damp mist, quite free of smoke pollution altogether. All the blackened buildings of the past have been cleaned up completely and London's buildings now gleam white in the sunshine and London's air, in spite of it being such a huge metropolis, is now clean and fresh in comparison with the past due to the 1956 Clean Air Act. Who burns coal fires now? Very few if any.

You are an idiot if you think that would actually stop people from smoking. The only thing banning smoking all together will do is raise crime significantly because you just created a black market. Probably more innocent people will die (like with the Drug Wars or Prohibition in the 1920's) because of the violence that follows than died from the actual substance.

i feel as though i should add that this took place over 50 years ago...
i understand that the Brits' (like all countries of the world) need to clean up their air,
