2000 Paul Binnebose / Laura Handy (Pairs Dangers)

1999 US Pairs Bronze medalists Laura Handy and Paul Binnebose fell from the heights of competitive skating to the depths of struggle for personal survival. Even while coached by top notch US team leaders, a morning slip (captured in this video) on the ice radically transformed their lives.

Dangers abound in Pairs skating, and inexperienced skaters especially should done pads, helmets, and harnesses at the least provocation. Male pairs skaters are turning these girls with mohawks that did not benefit from years of school figures training. A warning to all who are working with new or inexperienced coaching. Be careful and take precautions.
