In this episode John shows growing Tomatoes on his neighbors property. He also shows his tomato cages constructed out of common welded wire fence material. It works out to be less expensive and provide a larger growing surface than the cheap (small) "almost-worthless" standard tomato cages.

  • What if you have a large tomato inside the cage? Are you able to to get it through the wires or will you have to get it from the top?

  • I grow mostly cherry tomatoes, so this is not a problem. sometimes I need to get them thru the top or bed the wire wider to get them thru.

  • I suggest you increase the diameter of those cages the plants are much easier to manage. maybe another 12 inches or so will make a huge difference i the amount of pruning you would need to do and increase production at the same time.

  • Yes, I am doing this next year.
