That the desired outcome is your by right. I'm not saying the process of writing down, visiualization, being spacific and all the traditional steps are wrong but it's the application and inherant understanding of goal setting that is flawed.
Set intentions and just DO and know that the desired outcome IS your reality..
I see this in a different way and I'm sure some will disagree. I think there is an inherant flaw in the concept and more spacifically the psychology of goals and goal setting. Goals are in reality, glorified wishfull thinking and is another way of saying "I will TRY", which in actuality is a minset of lack and makes the failure of that goal an acceptable outcome.
If you want success without the possibility of failure, you set objectives and you just DO! Don't try but DO and understand -
ok so I have a couple goals but I'm working on some more. First off to get A's or B's in all my classes this semester and two to get $500 saved by May. I'm looking forward to more world domination!!

okay - so i may not get the 5 bucks, but i still think it's a good idea to post my goals here so they're out there in the world:
1. run/walk the 5K in may
2. lose 15 pounds by the 5K
3. work out at least 3 times a week

my goals are to lose 10 pounds by march
keep my straight A grade average
and get my driver license in july >:D
