At an elevation of at 4,011 metres (13,161 feet), Wheeler Peak is the highest point in the state of New Mexico. It is located northeast of Taos, in the northern part of the state, about 240 kilometres (150 miles) northeast of Albuquerque.

In this video you can see me opening the summit register. Also, there's a brownish haze off to the horizon in about every direction - this was due, at the time, from a massive fire that was taking place in northeastern Arizona a few hundred kilometres away. Called the Wallow fire, it had burned over 162,000 hectares (400,000 acres) at the time of this recording.
