The first video from RDF TV!
With a sea of information coming at us from all directions, how do we sift out the misinformation and bogus claims, and get to the truth? Michael Shermer of Skeptic Magazine lays out a "Baloney Detection Kit," ten questions we should ask when encountering a claim.
The 10 Questions: 1. How reliable is the source of the claim? 2.Does the source make similar claims? 3. Have the claims been verified by somebody else? 4. Does this fit with the way the world works? 5. Has anyone tried to disprove the claim? 6. Where does the preponderance of evidence point? 7. Is the claimant playing by the rules of science? 8. Is the claimant providing positive evidence? 9. Does the new theory account for as many phenomena as the old theory? 10. Are personal beliefs driving the claim?

Being aware of the proper mental tools for finding the truth is important but so is knowing how to use them. Thank you Richard Dawkins and also Michael Shermer for throwing out a lifeline to save us from the chaotic sea of misinformation out there.
I just gotta point out that this a terrible example. The fact that the Saddam Hussein regime had possessed and used WMD in the past was well-established and the burden of proof had since shifted per the terms of the cease-fire agreement which ended the previous conflict.
In a similar way, an officer running a maximum security penitentiary would be well-justified in demanding that the inmates regularly prove to him that they are not carrying restricted possessions.
I gotta point out you are full of shit. The US knew Saddam had WMDs 'cos they sold them to him in the 1980's, and they also knew that these have a limited shelf-life and were therefore defunct. Their weapons inspectors told the US that Iraq couldn't have any operational WMDs, but Bush, who was just using this as an excuse to attack, ignored the facts and attacked anyway. This was a war-crime and Bush and Blair should hang for it. You may happily accept any phoney excuses for war, but I won't.

People usually have to be taught how to think logically - some never are.
