  • @cbulen Generally when they rate a vehicles reliability they talk about engine breakdowns....

  • @madjimms

Thanks for sending the link at hxxp://on [dot] msnbc [dot] com/sGXRng <--replace xx with tt, remove spaces, add dots

The thing is that I am recommending the 1994-1999 Cadillac Northstar engine alone (not rest of Cadillac vehicle). I don't recommend the 2000+ N*, as they are radically different. Also your article says they rated Cadillac, as a whole vehicle (not engine alone), and these are for 2010 models.

  • @madjimms

You will need to cite your source. The Northstar was rated one of Ward's 10 best engines. en.wikipedia [dot] org/wiki/Northstar_engine_series

  • @cbulen Cadillac was rated THE worst in reliability for like 10 years in a row.

  • @mr2v6sc

"you are kidding right? Northstar are not reliable at all!" HUH? I didn't discuss reliability of N*

  • @cbulen

you are kidding right? Northstar are not reliable at all! All this complicated for just the V8 Sound!!! Get your V8 finished. I'll come down and race you with my 2GR on a drag strip. :)

  • @mr2v6sc

the 3S on my 93Turbo is 30 lbs lighter than stock: Lightweight alternator bracket, lightweight downpipe, lightweight flywheel.

Imaging this: V8 Northstar (4.6L) with turbo or supercharger added. The caddy guys figured out how to turbo the N*. Should make more power than in a Caddy, due to shorter exhaust run in the MR2 vs. Cadillac, not to mention difference in car weight.

    V8 SOUND!

  • @cbulen 2GRFE is 10 pounds lighter than a 3SGTE and way more reliable. Install a turbo on it or a supercharger and you'll get a lot of POWARRRRRRR!!!!!!!

  • V8 vs. V6? 1 could argue: Why bother with V6? 3S-GTE comes in MR2 Turbo, easy to add aftermarket to make 300+ horsepower. 3S can make 350 Hp reliably. V8 is just cool. MR2 is small car. I can say "I stuffed a big honkin' V8 in that little mid-engine sports car!

  • @mr2v6sc

The SHO v8 doesn't bolt on. The GM Northstar (94-99) bolts on to the F40. This is what I went to (see my later videos). The Northstar has a small amount of aftermarket available for it to bump up power, and an OEM supercharger (the 2000+ supercharger bolts on, AFAIK). SHO V8 = very unreliable, and no power, no bolt on F40 trans = not worth the trouble. We don't even know external dimensions. N* fits in MR2
